Physical education teacher Shannen Lewis will be giving exercise classes to parents with newborns at the Bird Kingdom in Niagara Falls.

“I’m accustomed to an active life and felt I was not taking care of myself so I thought I should join a class, but found out there was nothing like this,” she said. “So I decided why not start it myself?”

Lewis is a teacher and a trained yoga instructor with Can Fit Pro qualifications. Her classes begin on Saturday. Jan. 23., and is open to all mothers and fathers of newborns.

“Having the exercise classes at the Bird Kingdom is a great fit,” said Lewis. “It’s a very peaceful tranquil environment.”

Lewis said mothers are very busy after childbirth and it’s hard to take time for yourself and get back to your pre-baby weight. She said she understands, she is going through the same thing.

“Parents can bring their babies and put them in snugglies or they can hold on to them,” she said.

Parents who sign up will get a membership at the Bird Kingdom. For more information contact Lewis at vivolife@live.ca.
